Paint Color From a Photo

Have you ever seen a photo and loved the wall color. Ever wondered what that color was but couldn’t find the name of the color from the blog/website. Well, I have. In fact I was thinking of changing my living room wall color. The current color asparagus is too much on the cool side and I wanted something a little warmer; not to mention I wanted the color to flow with the kitchen which is a French Gold. Both colors in my home are from Behr paints.
To find the name of a color from a photo you will have to have access to Photoshop you can use the color copy tool on a photo and get its RGB value. If you don’t have Photoshop you can down load a simular program called paint.net. It has similar applications and it's free. Here is the link http://www.getpaint.net/

We will use this program to get the RGB value of a color. If you're unfamiliar with RGB color values, it is a series of three numbers that essentially provide the amount of red, green and blue required to make up the specific color. Any graphic designer or person who builds web pages is acutely familiar with RGB color palettes. The RGB value can also be translated into Hexadecimal values (the same three values represented in a base-16 numbering system), CMYK (similar, except expressed in cyan, magenta, yellow and black levels) and HSB (hue, saturation and brightness), all standardized color formats.

I have to point out one fact. The RGB value of a photo can change depending on how much or little light is reflected off of the color when the photo is taken. So when you are using the color picking tool  pick 3 or 4 different area and write the numbers down. This will give you a broader range and lets you see the different color hues. Once we have the RGB  number plug it into this website EASY RGB, here is there web site: http://www.easyrgb.com/index.php?X=SEEK

The site will give you paint color options that are closest to the RGB values for a selected paint brand. They don’t have all the brands but that’s not a problem just go to http://www.colorcharts.org/ and enter in the name of the paint and the brand you want it in, the site will give you the name and paint for your selected brand.

I suggest you get a sample of the paint and live with it for a few days. I am currently on day 3 for my three choices. I am giving myself a week (hoping the temp will go up as well) before I pick the color.  I will post the before and after later and of course I’ll let you know which one I picked.

Here is what I am talking about.

From paint.net get your color RGB, remember to get more then 1
Better view of photo and selected area.  Photo came from Room to Inspire Blog
Within the circle I came up with three different RGB numbers
193r- 156g -75b
207r- 170g -89b
194r- 157g -77b

Go to Easy RGB site and plug in the number and select your paint brand from their list.  I picked Benjamin Moore colors and hit start.  It will give you 4 colors option who's RGB values are close to the number you entered in. The results will give you the HEX#, RGB#'s and the name of the paint for that paint maker.

So the color choices are for  RGB 193 - 156 - 75:
Match #1  196.      157.80    85.08         AUTUMN GOLD
Match #2  189.77  161.69    82.02         SAVANNAH GREEN
Match #3  186.94  152.84    81.14         OCHRE
Match #4  183.07  143.43    70.60         AZTEC YELLOW

I hope this helps and let me know what you think.
