Small Master Bathroom Remodel Part 1: Floors & Wall

When I first painted my bathroom I wasn’t exactly careful when painting. Needless to say paint went everywhere. I was ok with it because though small, it’s my master bathroom and no one uses it but me. If you remember earlier I told you the first year of owning the house I would buy all this home improvement stuff but never got around to it. Well, I am starting with the bathroom, so my first project is to replace the floors. What started out as a simple weekend job turned out to be a big monster! I had several layers of tile and the baseboards were a nightmare to remove. I ended up replacing them with 3½ inch decorative base boards (though I planned on reuse them, however by the time I got them off I had kendling).

After the new floors were installed I primed and repainted the wall (this time I was more careful). I still have a long way to go but it looks good.

Ooh!!  In case you wondering the first photo isn’t how the bathroom started out. When I first moved in I replaced the single door the swang into the bathroom with bi-fold doors that swing out, replaced the light fixture, all the face plates, changed the wall color and painted the cabinets black. They were builder's standard, white, white and more white (even though this isn’t a new house, it was built in 1982). I also had really ugly shower doors (I had to take them off, A.S.A.P). Still have some touch-up here and there but it looks good.

Here is a tip: if you’re going to remove peel and stick tile get a heat gun. It works really fast.

BEFORE

Tile from the Home Depot.

AFTER:

Next on my list
    - Remove popcorn ceiling
    - Crown molding
    - Countertop update
    - Touch up cabinet
    - Address storage issue
    - New faucet

Wish me luck.
